Time of Reflection
“No man can hinder our private addresses to God; every man can build a chapel in his breast, himself the priest, his heart the sacrifice, and the earth he treads on, the altar.”
~Jeremy Taylor
“To love God with heart and soul and mind and strength… is the first and greatest commandment, so the first and greatest sin is not to love God with heart and soul and mind and strength. For this there is no remedy, save what God himself has provided—in love.”
~D.A. Carson
“…a loving soul wants fresh food every day from the table of Christ. And you who have once had the kisses of His mouth, though you remember the past kisses with delight, yet want daily fresh tokens of His love.”
~Charles Spurgeon, sermon on “The Church’s Love To Her Loving Lord”
“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”
~Jesus (Jn. 14:23)
“When we are securely rooted in personal intimacy with the source of life, it will be possible to remain flexible without being relativistic, convinced without being rigid, willing to confront without being offensive, gentle and forgiving without being soft, and true witnesses without being manipulative.”
~Henri Nouwen (1932-1996), Dutch Catholic priest, professor, writer and theologian

Call to Worship
Psalm 116:1-7 (NIV)
LEADER: I love the LORD, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.
PEOPLE: Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.
LEADER: The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came upon me; I was overcome by trouble and sorrow.
PEOPLE: Then I called on the name of the LORD: “O LORD, save me!”
LEADER: The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion.
PEOPLE: The LORD protects the simplehearted; when I was in great need, he saved me. Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you.
Songs and Liturgy

ALL CREATURES OF OUR GOD AND KING
(St. Francis, 1225, & William H. Draper 1928, Jonathan Baird, Ryan Baird)
All creatures of our God and King,
Lift up your voice and with us sing,
Alleluia, Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam,
Thou silver moon with softer gleam,
O praise Him, O praise Him,
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Let all things their Creator bless,
And worship Him in humbleness,
O praise Him, Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, three in one,
O praise Him, O praise Him,
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
All the redeemed washed by His blood,
Come and rejoice in His great love,
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Christ has defeated every sin.
Cast all your burdens now on Him,
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
He shall return in pow’r to reign.
Heaven and earth will join to say,
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Then who shall fall on bended knee?
All creatures of our God and King,
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

RESPONSIVE READING:
Psalm 139 (ESV)
LEADER: O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
PEOPLE: You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.
LEADER: How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
If I would count them, they are more than the sand.
I awake, and I am still with you.
ALL: Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
HERE IS LOVE
(William Rees, 1855; William Edwards, 1915; Matt Giles, Vell Rives)
Here is love vast as the ocean,
Loving-kindness as the flood,
When the Prince of Life, our ransom,
Shed for us His precious blood.
Who His love will not remember?
Who can cease to sing His praise?
He can never be forgotten
Throughout heav’n’s eternal days.
On the Mount of Crucifixion,
Fountains opened deep and wide;
Through the flood-gates of God’s mercy
Flowed a vast and gracious tide.
Grace and love like mighty rivers
Poured incessant from above;
Heaven’s peace and perfect justice
Kissed a guilty world in love.
Here is love that conquered evil:
Christ, the firstborn from the grave;
Death has failed to be found equal
To the life of Him Who saves.
In the valley of our darkness
Dawned His everlasting light;
Perfect love in glorious radiance
Has repelled death’s hellish night.
That same love beyond all measure,
Mocked and slain by hateful men,
Lives and reigns in resurrection
And can never die again.
Here is love for all the ages,
Radiant Sun of Heav’n He stands,
Calling home His Father’s children,
Holding forth His wounded hands.
Here is love, vast as the heavens;
Countless as the stars above
Are the souls that He has ransomed,
Precious daughters, treasured sons.
We are called to feast forever
On a love beyond our time;
Glorious Father, Son, and Spirit
Now with man are intertwined.

Special Benevolence Offering for Minneapolis Rebuild Relief
Our regular Benevolence Offerings are special collections above and beyond our regular giving to the church. The money received is then used in a variety of ways – 1) to help those with material needs within our church, 2) to help those with need in the broader Upper Valley Community, and 3) at times to help those suffering loss in other parts of the world. Today we have another such opportunity to give. Of the money collected 50% will be distributed to agencies assisting with rebuilding and relief efforts in Minneapolis, in partnership with fellow Converge churches in the city. The remaining 50% will go to meet other local needs through CRC’s Benevolence Fund. If you want to designate a gift for this special offering, please write “Benevolence: Minneapolis” in the memo section of your check or on your giving envelope. You can also give online here.
Prayer Time
(You may have an open time of prayer or select someone to pray)
- Pray for our nation – that the good news of Jesus Christ would reconcile people and bring justice.
- Pray for those who are hurting from disease and from unfair treatment.
- Pray for those leading our country and state – that they would have wisdom and grace in their decision making.
- Pray for the Willeman family as Dori recovers from her surgery.
- Pray that we would draw near to God as individuals and a church.

Selections from James (ESV)
James 1
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways… 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
James 2
18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God.
James 4
4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? 6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
James 5
11 Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful… 13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him…
Confession of Faith
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power,
And the glory, forever. Amen.

Song
(sing as a group and/or sing along to recorded versions)
WE WILL FEAST IN THE HOUSE OF ZION
(Joshua Moore, Sandra McCracken)
(CHORUS)
We will feast in the house of Zion.
We will sing with our hearts restored.
He has done great things, we will say together.
We will feast and weep no more.
We will not be burned by the fire.
He is the Lord our God.
We are not consumed by the flood.
Upheld, protected, gathered up.
(CHORUS)
In the dark of night before the dawn,
My soul be not afraid.
For the promised morning oh how long?
Oh God of Jacob, be my strength.
(CHORUS)
Every vow we’ve broken and betrayed,
You are the faithful one.
And from the garden to the grave,
Bind us together bring shalom.
(CHORUS)

Benediction
(The leader or individual should read this aloud relishing in the confident assertion that Christ has conquered.)
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
LEADER: Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.
PEOPLE: Amen!
Worshipping God through Giving
God has called us to be generous. He has entrusted this earth and all that is in it to us, but it is, ultimately, His! The Father gave what was most precious to Him, His own Son, in order to die for our sins. He has given to us abundantly beyond all that we could possibly ask or imagine! He is a benevolent and generous Giver! So, we give.
First, we want to remind you to continue your regular giving to TQC. This supports the ongoing work and ministry here in the Upper Valley and around the world through our missions support. Second, please consider giving to our Benevolence Fund, which supports local community care, both inside and outside the church. This is vitally important right now! As we see needs sprouting up around the community, we want to be positioned to extend a loving hand of support to those in need.
