Time of Reflection Quotations
“Nearly all vices are rooted in the future. Gratitude looks to the past and love to the present; fear, avarice, lust and ambition look ahead.”
~C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters
“…I hope it is not pompous to call the chief idea of my life; I will not say the doctrine I have always taught, but the doctrine I should always have liked to teach. That is the idea of taking things with gratitude, and not taking things for granted.”
~G.K. Chesterton, The Autobiography of G. K. Chesterton
“If you are God’s child, the life force that energizes your thoughts, desires, words, and actions is no longer you; it’s Christ!”
~Paul David Tripp, New Morning Mercies: A Daily Gospel Devotional
“If you have known what it is to be wiped out and to feel what an unutterable sinner you are, you will thank God that when he loves, he finds the reason of his love in himself and not in you.”
~Archibald Brown
Sermon Passage
Colossians 3:12–17 (ESV)
12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
